Maach Bhaja

( Mackerel Fry )

Serves 3-4

2 large mackerel, gutted and cut into 2.5cm / 1 inch steaks
5ml / 1tsp chili powder
5ml / 1tsp ground turmeric
5ml / 1tsp salt
oil for frying
lemon juice


Wash the fish and dry thoroughly.  
Sprinkle with the chili, turmeric and salt.  Rub into the fish well.
In a frying pan ( skillet ) heat the oil and fry the fish, a few pieces at a time, for 3-4 minutes on each side.  Drain on kitchen paper.

Sprinkle the lemon juice over the fish and serve.
